David Griffin did very well. I'm not gonna give it to him because it wasn't really too much of a maverick move because AD wanted to leave anyway and LAL made it no secret they wanted him. He still gets my runner up vote because he could have air balled it. Phenomenal haul.
Sean Marks kinda blew it in my opinion. He signed KD right after he tore his achilles which is the equivalent of having to get TJ surgery for a MLB pitcher, there's no guarantees the player will ever be the same after. With that said, I would have shaken the dice on KD. My issue was the abrupt firing of coach Atkinson amid rumored player dissatisfaction, when you have divas like KD and Kyrie under big contracts, the GM could be next.
James Dolan lol. Spike Lee doesn't even want to sit in MSG anymore.
I'm gonna go with Jon Horst. 53-12 before Rudy coughed on the mics. He's got 2 Greek alphabets and the Latin twin towers. Middleton, Bledsoe, Hill, Corver and the rest of the International House of Pancakes would have looked awesome losing to the Lakers in the Finals.
Horst did a good job, but usually the award will go to the exec that does work for his team's success this year, which is why I mentioned the future aspects of the Pelicans, for example. While great in my opinion, it didn't really shine through this season. Arguably. Re-signing Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez were givens, trading Malcolm Brogdon for a protected first round pick and two protected second rounders was a solid get-back that didn't add any money to the cap. George Hill, Wes Matthews, and Robin Lopez were all solid gets. However, nothing hits you in the face. Besides, he won last year, deservedly, so there won't be an "we owed you" sort of vote. Also, an exec winning back-to-back awards has only happened once since the award began for the 1972-73 season. That was Stan Kasten of the Atlanta Hawks for the 1985-86 and 1986-87 seasons.
LOVED what Griffin did, but injuries weren't the Pelicans friend. Obviously Zion is looking like the real deal and will be a beast, but I really love Jaxson Hayes, especially with a willing passer like Zo on the team.
Marks has a lot of cache with the Nets organization. They would have to absolutely suck with Kyrie and KD healthy for him to get fired. I just don't see that happening.
I literally laughed at my own joke with Dolan, which is just pathetic to do. But, isn't that appropriate considering the owner? Ha!
